S3 Dance Academy

In S3 students study National 5 Dance. This involves:

  • 3 periods per week timetabled Dance.
  • 1 period per week mandatory Dance Academy class selected in the ‘options column’.
  • 2 hours per week after school classes (usually on a Monday or Wednesday from 3-5pm)

During the National 5 Dance course students will:

Study 4 technical solos (jazz, lyrical, ballet and commercial) and will perform their highest scoring to an SQA examiner. This will form 35% of their overall award.

Create/devise a choreography on 2 others and write a choreographic review detailing their journey and justifying their creative choices. This will form 45% of their overall award.

Complete a question paper on: evaluation of technical and performance skills, knowledge and understanding of a dance style, and evaluation of a professional choreography. This will form 20% of their overall award.

S4 Dance Academy

In S4 students study Higher Dance. This involves:

  • 5 periods per week timetabled Dance
  • 2 hours per week after school classes (usually on a Monday or Wednesday from 3-5pm)

During the Higher Dance course students will:

  • Study 4 technical solos (jazz, lyrical, ballet and commercial) and will perform their 2 highest scoring solo’s to an SQA examiner. This will form 40% of their overall award.
  • Create/devise a choreography on a group of others and write a choreographic review detailing their journey and justifying their creative choices. This will form 30% of their overall award.
  • Sit a question paper on: evaluation of technical and performance skills, knowledge and understanding of a dance style, and evaluation of a professional choreography. This will form 30% of their overall award.
