Seasons For Growth

Denny High School are proud to deliver Seasons for Growth programmes throughout the school year. These sessions are delivered by members of our Pupil Support department.

We aim to run to programmes twice each academic year the first beginning straight after the October break and the second beginning on our return in January.

Seasons for Growth programmes help people understand the experiences of change, loss and grief and how these can impact on a person’s life. The programmes also support the development of communication, decision making and problem-solving skills to support children and young people coping with a wide range of changes and losses including:

Changes in family dynamics (divorce, separation, caregiving situations)
Grief due to the loss of a friend or family member
Parental challenges (coping with unemployment, imprisonment, etc.)
Injury, disability, or significant illness (dealing with personal or within the family)
Overcoming self-esteem challenges

Each level includes eight weekly sessions, a final celebration session and two subsequent reconnector sessions (that range from 40 minutes to an hour depending on age). Each weekly session explores a concept theme such as, Life is like the Seasons, Change is Part of Life, Valuing My Story, caring for my Feelings, Making Good Choices.

Seasons for Growth Programmes use a person-centred learning approach. This approach doesn’t use specific group processes or position the facilitator (Companion) as the expert, but instead aims to create an environment where participants become aware of their own strengths and resources, and decide on their own solutions.

Companions model empathy, understanding and acceptance in the group in order to empower participants to be true partners in learning.

Should you feel this would be of benefit to your child please contact your child’s Head of House in the first instance.
