The focus of Modern Studies is to develop learners' knowledge and understanding of contemporary political, social and economic issues in local, national and international contexts.

Modern Studies is unique to the Scottish curriculum and the knowledge students acquire and the skills developed will allow them to become a more informed individual, able to participate more effectively in society in a more tolerant and responsible manner.

Modern Studies actively contributes to the development of pupils’ literacy, numeracy, health and wellbeing and digital competence.
