Denny High English

The English curriculum aims to motivate and challenge learners in real life contexts, while developing their skills in Literacy. Learners will be engaged in a number of activities to develop their critical reading and listening skills as well as their ability to independently understand, analyse and evaluate level appropriate spoken and written text.

In addition, learners will develop their writing skills and knowledge of language to develop individual folios of writing. Oral presentation skills and the ability to contribute effectively to group discussion will also feature throughout the course as one of the core Literacy and English skills developed.

The course provides flexibility, personalisation and choice to enable learners to achieve in different ways and at a different pace. The course provides opportunities for learners to build on prior learning and is designed to be accessible. The internally assessed units are organised by the receptive (listening and reading) and productive (talking/speaking and writing) skills of language.

Learners will develop their skills in reading, writing, listening and talking in the Broad General Education, and will move on to National courses in S3.
